Will it be Norfolk or Suffolk?

A Norfolk wedding OR a Suffolk Wedding

Are you looking for your perfect wedding venue in Norfolk or Suffolk? Here at Little Green Wedding Barn we’ve got our feet firmly in both counties! We’re located right on the border between the two where our traditional 17th Century Grade II Listed Suffolk Barn - the Little Green Wedding Barn - has been sympathetically renovated; featuring oak beams and a Queen Post Roof. It stands next to our home, a 15th Century ‘Suffolk Pink Farmhouse’ in Thrandeston and offers a stunning and stylish space combining rustic charm and slick contemporary features - a truly versatile venue for your wedding.

We’d like to show a little love for our village and share with you just a little bit of its fascinating history …

Split into two areas, Thrandeston Little Green and Thrandeston Great Green, the village is less than a mile away from both the A143 road from Bury St Edmunds to Great Yarmouth and the A140 from Norwich to Ipswich. (So it’s easy for all your guests to get to).

Thrandeston had at least 6 holdings listed in the Domesday Book of 1066, the main manor was held by Anselm from the Abbot of St Edmunds and included a church with 8 acres (32,000 m2) of land and woodland for four pigs. There are three moated sites at Malting Farm, Church Farm and Goswold Hall. Goswold Hall has links with the Grey family - the most famous member of which was Lady Jane Grey.

Thrandeston has its origins in the arable community; mainly in the growing of hemp, as the nearby town of Diss was a large linen market. Three linen weavers, a tailor and a collar maker were all listed in the village in the late 17th century.

St Margaret Church, Thrandeston contains the armorial bearings of the Rix and Blakeby families. The 15th Century tower has a dedicatory inscription. It remembers that the Sulyards and the Cornwallises had it built. Inside are medieval carvings and wooden figures and animals, thought to be witches!

We feel so lucky to both live and work where we do in this stunning location and, as this sometimes difficult year draws to a close, we find ourselves looking back through the seasons here at the Little Green Wedding Barn and we know that many of our couples chose to split their celebrations across our fabulous indoor and outdoor areas. The carefully landscaped outside area and gardens offer a beautiful setting and there’s certainly been many a ‘Kodak Moment’ captured on the tree swing, much loved by our couples and creating stunning images for wedding albums to be enjoyed for many years to come.

If you’re planning your wedding for 2023, 2024 - or even beyond - we’d love to hear from you and to help you host your perfect day. At Little Green Wedding Barn we know that every wedding is unique and we love it that every couple brings something new to the venue, and how no wedding here is ever the same. We’re happy to work WITH you, not just for you, for the day of your dreams.
