Picture perfect and bang on trend - smoke bombs

Smoke bombs are increasingly popular at weddings these days and they can certainly make for some incredible effects in the photos of your very special day.  We’re often asked if we allow them here at Little Green Wedding Barn …. yes, we do!

Here’s what you need to know…

First, please be sure to let us know in advance if you’re planning to use smoke bombs.  The safety of all our guests – and staff – is paramount so here’s what you need to consider.

If not used carefully and correctly, smoke bombs can spark and even burn and can also stain clothing, so we’d recommend you check whether your photographer has used them before.  You may even want to consider trying out a test run prior to your big day.

Here at Little Green Wedding Barn, smoke bombs can be used ONLY outside.

Don’t forget that smoke bombs are available in all sorts of colours so you have the option to choose whatever will best suit your plans for the day.

Once set down, please ensure that everybody is at least 2-3 feet away from the smoke bombs and please don’t leave them on their sides as this will damage or stain the ground.

Let’s be sure that everybody stays safe; so please don’t use them in high winds and provide a metal bucket to drop used bombs into plus a bottle of water to ensure they’re completely extinguished!

Do let your photographer know well in advance if you’re planning to use smoke bombs as they can help prepare and suggest the best places for any ‘special’ shots that you’re looking for.

Then, it’s time to make sure that everybody is photo-ready!  Smoke bombs can be a lot of fun and add a ‘pop of colour’ too.  Once that trigger is pulled, it takes around 10 seconds to fully release and you’re ready to create the perfect memories of the day of your dreams.

Here’s just a few of the tips we’ve picked up …

You may want to buy more than you think you’ll need to be sure of getting exactly the photos you really want.

The smoke bombs should last approximately 60-90 seconds and it’s a good idea to decide in advance if you want the smoke as the background in your photos or whether you want to be holding them – or maybe even a mix of both!

In our experience, many photographers have suggested that the effect is especially good against a darker background.

Your photographer should be happy to help advise you on the day.
